Happy New Year

Imagine, we are already on January 1, 2009. Another new year. Wishing everyone the best for 2009!

New Year's Eve in the Thebault's house was very quiet. As we are not travelling right now, due to Mel's mending - we stayed in for a quiet night at home. We watched a movie and had hoped to make it to watch the ball drop on Time Square. Mel couldn't make it past 11:45 - I figured I would stay up until after midnight.. unfortunately I fell asleep at 5 until midnight and missed the entire thing. Oh well..

The weather continues to be an issue here in the north country. We awoke this morning to high blowing winds. The temp on the top right in the picture is -5. The wind chill is -20 to -25. I took the dogs out this morning, and they looked at my like I was nuts.. they did their thing and immediately ran back in.

Well, here's to a brand new year... wishing health and happiness for the new year.

Kathy,

No wonder the dogs didn't want to go outside to go pee. It must be very uncomfortable making yellow icicles.I hope it warms up for you. It has been very nice here lately. The temperature has been in upper 50's or low-mid 60's during the day but gets into the 20's at night when it's clear.

The star gazing has been excellent on the good nights. Robb got me a telescope for Christmas. It has been great using it. I've seen the moon up close, craters and all. I'm still learning the basics, but it has been a lot of fun.

Julie and I got a real sweet deal on a hotel room in Chattanooga so we spent New Years Eve there. We walked around the downtown area and took the free shuttle after dark. We saw a few live bands warming up and the usual suspects who make New Years an excuse to act stupid, but overall it was very subdued. I guess the economy has kept a lot of folks at home. We usually go to a friends house for New Years, but this time decided on a different direction, just the two of us. It was fun. Chattanooga is really a happening place, more so than Atlanta. It was good for us to get out, we've spent the last few weeks holed up here, except to go to the ASO and Melany's house; a trip to the grocery store has been the highlight of my day.

I talked to Mom today and wished her a Happy New Year. I guess if there is any good to come from this time is that Nana's children were all there at the same time. Mom sounded kind of tired. She was up late with Aunt Judy. I hope she doesn't wear herself down, but it amazes me the kind of strength she possesses.

Julie and I spent the day picking up dead fall to cut up for fire wood. I cannot believe the wood the previous owners cut down and left to rot rather than bartering it for something they could use.

Oh well, we found about a cord of uncut hardwood, mostly maple, some hickory and locust out by the road that just needed to be loaded into the truck. I'll cut and split it over the weekend. We should have more than enough to get us through the rest of this winter and the start of next winter as well.

We tried to call you today to wish you a Happy New Year, but I'm guessing you are probably shoveling or scraping ice off of something.

I hope all is well with you and Mel and that he is on his way to recovery. I could use his help down here clearing some trees and making firewood.

I've been wanting to come North in the worst way, I will really try to get up there for a long weekend this January.

I'd like to see Cameron and Amy and Jason before Cameron starts college or learns to walk.

Take care, be well and may peace and prosperity bless you this year.
