Hanging with the fishes …

Bright and early Saturday morning my parents, Matt, and Kensey took me on a surprise trip to Tennessee where we met up with my college roommates Joy and LeAnn, whom I haven’t seen since Christmas. We hung out at the Tennessee Aquarium all day and had a blast. I think it has been about ten years since I was last there and they have a whole new building that has butterflies, penguins, jellyfish, sharks, etc. What a fun day :-).

Celebrate the magic

Time flies when you get older and that’s what I did over the weekend, I got older :-). I have been planning in my head for the last year if not longer to take a trip to Disney. As soon as I heard about Disney’s promotion for 2009 about a free ticket on your birthday, I went out to the site and registered. I think I may have even been one of the first, hehe. So I registered back in May/June timeframe last year so that I could go to Disney this year for free. So, as time got closer I realized that I would not be able to take a full vacation and enjoy the beauty of a nice long break because I had to get back to school work, but I did want to take some time and spend time with Mickey. So, my parents packed up their stuff, on a very short notice, and went with me to celebrate my 30th birthday at the land of magic. I even got two calls from Goofy wishing me a happy birthday. When I had arrived, I was provided a Birthday button and everywhere I went I was wished a happy birthday from virtual strangers who had the same goal of having a magical day. There were lots of folks at Disney celebrating all kinds of events and it was fun being able to celebrate with them as well – others also had buttons on and you could congratulate them or wish them a happy birthday as well. We went to Magic Kingdom on Friday the 17th and because we were staying at one of the Disney resorts we were able to stay at the park for extended hours – we opened the park but we didn’t stay to close the park at 3am but we did stay until about 1am. We were up bright and early on Saturday the 18th so that we could also open Epcot. We had a little rain each day, but we were well prepared with ponchos, umbrellas, etc. as we were not going to let anything spoil the magic :-). I may have turned 30 over the weekend but still a kid who enjoys celebrating the magic :-). Hope everyone else has an opportunity to celebrate the magic as well.

Disney has this whole new store (well, at least it is new since we went 12 years ago) that is dedicated to Mr. Potato Head and My Little Pony. I couldn’t resist, I had to get a Mr. Potato Head.

Summer 2009

Mom, Kathy, are we the only ones who live interesting lives?

I haven't heard from Dad, Amy and Jason or Cameron. Mike and MaryAnn, Matt, Kinsey or Melany. Jim, Lori, Stephanie, Jameson, Jessica, Bethany, Robb or Andrew.

Kathy, did you send invitations to Jan and Paul, Laurie and John Auntie Bettie and Uncle Eric, Auntie Judy and the West Coast family? I would really like to hear what is happening to the rest of the family.

I wish we could have been there for the 4th. Some of my favorite memories are in that place and it seems like some things never change although the barber shop quartet on a motorcycle was a twist in an old tale.

I'm glad you got a good turn out for your BBQ, in spite of the rain.

It's too bad the house on the corner will be built, now you'll have two monstrosities to contend with.
It's kind of sad how quickly two very selfish, inconsiderate families can change the face of a neighborhood.

I have been on vacation this week, while Julie has to work. I had a "honey do"list all made up and I'm working my way through it, but I still took some time out to have some fun.

I bought some fireworks in Tennessee that we set off Friday night.

Julie had to work on the 4th of July so I came down to the plant with her on Saturday to help organize the tool crib. (I really need some help with that in my work shop).

We saw the fireworks in town Saturday night, they were really great. I guess they had a lot of private donations pay for them because there is no money in the budget to pay for fireworks this year.

Mike and Matt drove up early Monday morning to play golf with Andrew and I. Nice course, we saw a lot of deer, unfortunately, there was a tournament right behind us so we had to scurry through several holes. It is a very pretty setting, right in the mountains. It would have been nice to take our time and enjoy the scenery.

I renewed my fishing license yesterday and drove up north to Chattanooga and worked my way back down to do some fishing. Not any success, but I found a few great great fishing holes. It's a change from fishing in the pond behind the house.

Friday, Julie is taking off from work to make up for the July 4th. We are driving up to CopperHill TN. It's a nice drive, I'll probably take my fishing pole just in case.

I hope you all are doing well.

Hi everyone,
As Kathy says it is raining and raining and raining. This morning I dumped the water guage which I had dumped yesterday morning of 1.80" This afternoon at 2 pm i dumped 2". by my calculations that is almost 4" of rain in about 48 hours. Kathy said she saw Noah gathering up animals 2x2, well I believe I saw a few unicorns in the mix. They want out of the water this time.
We were supposed to go out to the island and lead tours to the lighthouse. The first day was on July 1st and today July 8th it didn't happen either day. We have had 1 1/2 days (Saturday morn July 4th and Sunday almost to dusk without rain. Bought flowers over 2 weeks ago and haven't been able to get them planted. Everything is getting moldy and the house smells damp outside IS damp and we are starting to see mushrooms grow up our legs. HELP call out the sun.
The 4th of July parade in OP was great. There had to be about 250 kids on bikes, trikes, in wagons, walking, being carried and they were all decorated and having a ball. Paul, Jan and Emmalise were in the parade. Emmy was in a little wagon that was decorated like a surrey, and she had on Uncle Sam Hat and red and white and Blue streamers. Cute.
When I figure out how to put pictures on I will send some.
The beach chair brigade, pier French Fries, Ferry Beach State Park, Seakonk (family with the cottage across from Jordan Hall had "Barbara 80" that is years) there were probably 25 family members, 7 or 8 floats of different kinds, the barber shop group were 4 on a motorcycle. Yes, 4 and they were singing patriotic songs. Fire trucks, police cars, rescue truck, fire chief, etc. Just a great parade and then the band concert at the bell. Uncle Eric played in the band and walked the parade route.
After the oncert we came to the house and had a picnic dinner. Uncle Eric, Auntie Bettie, Jan, Paul, Emmy, Paul's Mom and her friend, Jim, Lori, Stephanie and her boyfriend, Jameson and Dad and I. It rained as we got ready to put stuff out in the back yard so we drug everything into the garage and it was fine. Good food, good company and a good afternoon.
Fireworks started out front on the beach and Dad went up to the Crow's Nest to watch for a bit and came in about10:10. Fireworks were still going in front and he said a police car turned around at the end of the street and he came in.
We heard the rest of the fireworks from OOB and in front and went off to sleep. Next morning Dad was talking to the neighbor and found out that the policeman had parked in fromt of Sue's cottage and went to the beach to tell them to stop the fireworks and came back to his car to call the fire department because there were 4 or 5 big beach fires and no permits. when he got bact to the car someone had smashed the cruiser's back window. By the time it was over there were 2 cruisers, 2 firetrucks, and a rescue truck. they will probably never know who did the window in. We worry because the house at the corner on Surf street is ready to be taken down for rebuilding and all that is left is two sides and the floor. There isn't any of it worth saving. The carpenter ants or termites, not sure which have done a job over the years and whats left is rotten. what if someone decides it looks great for burning.
I've talked to the City Planner who will be presiding over a meeting on the 21st to move forward with the building. The Code Enforcement Officer was here yesterday to talk to us, I had called him the day before and he said he had to talk to the City Attorney, not too much they can do at this point. Looks like we will have to wait until the 21st.
that is about all there is from the soggy Northeast so I guess I shall close before this gets too, too long.
Love you all,
Send some warm weather this way. It is hard pressed to get out of the 50's

Wow, where did June go?

The month basically flew by and here we are at the 4th of July.

Mom and Dad came up at the beginning of June for a few days, while Mel was away fishing.. we had a nice relaxing time.

Mel and I travelled to Vermont Father's Day weekend and then down to Amy and Jason's. We got a chance to take care of our little guy!.. what a joy that was. Cameron is now walking..

I went to Maine last weekend to see Dad for Father's Day - and Mom and I went to the local quilt show..

Phew .. what a month.. the weather has been pretty rainy. I heard the other day that there was 21 days out of 29 with rain.. and not just sprinkles.. I did see Noah come by the other day, and was collecting up animals - 2x2..

Well have a wonderful 4th of July!
